Most of us who have been on the list a while are pretty well versed in
torquing the keel bolts.  In my opinion, it's one of the more technical
tasks on our boats.

However, there have been a bunch of pearls of wisdom in this thread.

Someone mentioned the dry vs lubed adjustment.  10% less for lubed.

I might have missed it but I don't think anyone mentioned that the nuts
should be backed off then torqued.  The action of tightening should be
smooth and gradual.  If the process stops before achieving full torque, I'd
be inclined to loosen the nut and start over.  Just my opinion.

There was one mention of galling of the threads.  This might be helpful:

As a couple listers mentioned, if the washers or backing plates deform or
the underlying fiberglass structure shows signs of collapse, it would be
wise to correct that condition before placing undue strain on the keel,
i.e. sailing.

Also, although some might disagree, I think conventional wisdom indicates
the bolts should be torqued while the boat is on the hard.  That's the way
it was built.
