I suppose the advantages/disadvantages are in the eye of the beholder. My boat weighs about 20,000 pounds. The short-term weight of a person standing in the companionway adjusting the main after tacking isn’t that big of a deal.

Assuming you already have someone on the low side grinding the jib sheets, the last thing you want coming out of a tack is a lot of weight down in the cockpit. Our boats don’t typically accelerate well when at a high angle of heel. Chuck Gilchrest S/V Half Magic From: CnC-List [mailto:cnc-list-boun...@cnc-list.com] On Behalf Of Matthew L. This means someone needs to be dedicated to the position (that is, the driver can’t handle it without leaving the wheel). If a crew member must attend to the main any way, the traveler controls are right there and easily operated. I did not see much benefit for the high price. You save one hand in the process. Marek From: Matthew L. Wolford via CnC-List Sent: Thursday, July 13, 2017 09:31 To: cnc-list@cnc-list.com Cc: Matthew L. As they say in their ads, once you raced with one, you would never go back. If you are cost conscious, go for Garhauer; there is hardly better value (not to mention that they usually bend over backwards to accommodate your needs).
