Hi Randy In most areas removing original fixtures such as ovens, tables, doors etc … to save weight is considered taboo and incurs a penalty under PHRF. Generally cushions are permitted to be removed because they can get wet while racing esp in smaller sportier boats. A completely rebuilt custom interior if considered at all would be considered a customization and the PHRF authority would decide what if any penalties are warranted. Usually it is not any lighter so no penalty would be applied

I'm the 4th owner and completely refinished the interior in 1998 when I purchased the boat. I ain't doing that again!!!! My wife doesn't do sun, wind, or noise....so my long-standing crew of 30 years and I campaign the boat in the PHRF races around Boston..... And I try to remove something wooden each year. The list of improvements over 20 years is substantial. If the bathfitter project is doable..... I'll consider replacing the wood bulkhead with high strength laminate foam sheets.....structurally compatible as a bulkhead.....half the weight..
