It won't work well unless you have the rudder angle sensor installed I tried to avoid getting down below to install that rudder angle sensor and the unit just didn't work right until I spent many hours in a cramped space and got it done been fine ever since. Also check the connections from the flux gate compass on the back of the control head just pull each one off and then connect it again and check your compass deviation as per the manual
