Hi Dave, I borrowed a rivet gun from pal on my dock and put a padeye (not sure it this is the right terminology - basically a U-shaped fitting) onto the boom.
I run the bitter end to that and tie it off. I angled it so that the two rivets are in line with the reef line. Works very well!!
