I hate to hear if idiots getting rescued. I don't think he deserved it. He put 
USCG resources and good people at risk for no reason. The CG should have left 
him on the German ship. His life wasn't in any danger. He should have been made 
to find his own way home from Germany. None of his comments show any remorse or 
gratitude. He probably doesn't have a job.

There is a lot of info on that on other forums. I found some on the 
SailboatOwners.com. 
To start with, a lot of news information was inaccurate (e.g. the initial 
statement that he lived for a long time in an overturned hull). 
But if you look at what is there on SO, the previous owner advised him not to 
sail out before the boat was fully refurbished (apparently, the main reason for 
selling it was that it was not serviceable). And there were numerous tell-tale 
signs (his questions to the forum, and how he treated answers).
