Dwight,
Clearly lots of us are using 6vs, so I changed the header to where. . .
The previous owner built a plywood box to hold two 6vs under the
galley sink. I added a trim piece and raised the front quarterberth
panel/nav seat an inch to fit 2 more 6vs there. I have a big 12v
starter battery on starboard -a G31, under the line locker, close to
the engine.
Yes watering the batteries is a challenge, I use a small water bottle
so I can hold my finger over the opening and squirt. A head lamp
helps too.
Hope that helps. . .

Gary,
where do you locate all those batteries on your 35 MKII? I have two
6V batteries golf cart batteries in series for house supply and 1
group 27 deep cycle 12 V, so about 350 amp hours altogether when
fully charged...and I can't find much space on my boat for more than
that...only charged form the alternator when the boat is in the
water from early June to end Oct...I have had them for 9 years and
have not had any problems like Joe reported on charging them with
what I think is a stock alternator and regulator on my M4-30
Universal diesel...in fact the shore powered battery charger that I
use after haulout before winter storage and before launch also
charges them at about 13.8 V...

I use 4 6 volt golf cart batteries on Expresso for the house (2 in
series / the pairs wired in parallel). They usually last me 9 or 10
years. It's a good solution. I use a 12 volt battery for the start
battery. I use a battery combiner to charge them.
