I have had the same problem on my Yanmar 3gm30 for years. Exactly as you describe. Since it would start on the second try all the time it was no problem. One time it wouldn't start at all for 10 minutes and caused me to find the source. Tightened the battery cables and no problems for a year. Starting to happen again and will try the cables again.
