Had that same sort of intermittent problem with my Universal M4-30 a couple
of years back...solved with no recurrences after I changed out the starter
push button and redid the fuse connections (2@30 amp) and cleaned all the
wire connections at the panel...the fuses I believe most likely caused the
problem but I did all the work at the same time when I had the panel removed
so I can't say that with certainty, but on removing the little glass 30 amp
fuses the metal ends fell right off the glass, so I think the fuse itself
had deteriorated and most likely caused my problems...looked OK to the eye
until I removed it...no tellin how old that fuse was, one was in a fuse
holder with a badly corroded spring and the other was just soldered to the
connecting wires either end, that fell apart when I touched it as one metal
fuse end separated from the glass tube

I may have a related problem - and would like help to diagnose the cause
before it becomes a significant issue.

>From time to time - not sure if it is getting more frequent - with the key
turned, battery on and fully charged - I get nothing - not even a clunk -
when I press the button. I press it a second time and 99% of the time the
engine fires right up.

Have any listers experienced the same - and help me identify the problem so
I can fix it before I get to the stage where I can't start the engine at
all.
