You need to fix the light. An external light will have all kinds of reflections. The wire is prone to chafe on the steering cables and where it goes into the compass. It is pretty much a trace it back to the start from the compass end and see what the problem is operation. Dumb question – did you measure the voltage or is there a chance the bulb died?
