I will get the Auction started with a bid of $100.00. I am getting ready to
take my mast down and my old wind unit is not working. I had this system on
my C&C 33 and was very happy with it. I now have an older C&C 30 and am
getting it into sailing condition.

With end boom sheeting on my 35 MKII there is no interference with my rather
large dodger on any point of sail. I have a shorter boom than the standard
so for my boat E= 12' or a touch more instead of 13.5' as listed under tech
info on the C&C photoalbum site. Further, mainsheet control from behind the
helm or from either side of the boat on the helm seats is totally doable.I
know because I do it. The bridge deck mounted traveler is in the way
sometimes for entering an exiting the cabin but that is a trade off against
having a traveler in the way of transit to and from the helm. I would not
change the arrangement I hav on my 35 MKII and I feel that the high aspect
ratio main sail is an improvement over the standard rig.

I would go nuts with the traveler across the bridge deck. It would hose up
how my dodger works and be a danger to people entering or exiting the cabin.
I also love being able to drop the traveler without leaving the helm. YMMV
and all ;)

As for the mast step, the 35 MK I can suffer from a rotten mast step. I do
not know if the MK II is any different. Good news is it is a relatively easy
and cheap repair if you do it yourself. It is NOT the same as the issue with
the MK III and maybe some others that involves the structure of the hull.
Also if the MK II is like the MK I it is not hard to figure out if the boat
has the issue from inside the boat.

Does anyone have any experience with hand crank generators. Something with
a USB connection with or without a battery. I'm thinking of getting on and
throwing it in the ditch bag with a gps, tablet and maybe a cell phone.

Subject: Stus-List Datamarine Auction
As you might remember, I picked up a Datamarine system from Gary Nylander a
while ago.
Description:
Datamarine 5100 control head, Display unit with digital speed and depth,
analog wind; DX111 depth, SX 120 speed, wind speed/direction mast top unit,
coax cable, through hull speed and depth sensors....

I tested the speed and depth, but not the wind. The speed works fine. The
depth part seems to work, but I was putting it on the dog for an ?ultrasound
exam? and not in water. I did not hook up the wind part.
Long story short I found the parts to fix my own instruments after years of
searching on FleaBay and do not need this system. So?. I would like to
auction this off to the highest bidder. Money to go to the C&C Photo Album
? not me! Cough up a few bucks and keep the list alive ? I?ll donate the
shipping to the 48 states. Not sure what it would cost to send to other
countries or AK/HI.

This is actually high quality equipment and you can have a unit below and
another one at the helm. I would be using it myself if I hadn?t found spares
for my ancient stuff.

So I have done it! I have broke-down and chartered a sailboat out of
Wickham's Cay II in Tortola at Road Town. The boat is a Jenanneau 36I. I
have some reservations about this boat; I?ve been told that it does not sail
very well to weather? After being spoiled to the C&C 30MK1 and its great
sailing ability?s in all weather conditions, well, I just don?t know what to
expect. I have spent 2 full summers sailing the Port Royal sound Hilton Head
area and am a bit apprehensive. I have some butterflies in my stomach. All
the local sailors that know me and my boat seem to think its going to be
easy sailing there compared to what I?m use to with the constant title
changes of 6 to 9 feet and the strong currents. It just feels ?BIG? If you
have been there in April and can share some insight in the conditions and
what to expect, I would love to hear from you.
Here is a breakdown on the cost at this point. Flights were $659.00 for each
of us, roundtrip. That?s $1,318.00 that?s from Charleston to Atlanta then
Atl to St Thomas. The cab ride and the ferry trip to Tortola will run $100.
With a tip. Then the best charter rate I could get using a broker, was, Keep
in mind the check in is after 6pm and the boat will have to be back by 11:am
for check out. So really we forfeit 1 day. We can only sail 6 days and a few
hours.

That?s a running total at this point of $4,074.85 for each couple? For you

What have I left off? More food or to low on the dining out? Please give me

Don't get too hung up on the sailing issue. You are going to places very
close together and none of the other charter boats go to weather very well
either and they all get around. We did great with a 39 foot cat that
basically close reached at best on each tack. We still passed the
Bendy-Twos. They pointed better but we did 9-12 knots :)

I have found that some white lithium grease cakes and hardens with time.I
suppose it would have worked fine had I cleaned and regreased every year.but
sometimes I wait more than 5 years.my Barient 28+ sheet winches and my

use Pennzoil Marine 100% synthetic white marine grease on the gears and
Harken winch oil on the pawls and bearings

Once you get on the boat, you won't care. We rented an Jeanneau 50 and
once you get out of the dock, you don't think about the size Until you bring
it back in, and it is blowing 28 and they want you to back it in and you are
towing a dink . . .

We never even put the main up, there is so much wind you will only need to
roll the jib out. Most of them have engine mount fridge compressors, so you
will have to run the engine several hours a day or risk cold beer and
spoiled food.

Bobby's sent a van over and picked us up and brought us back, Groceries 350$
for 7 people.

Then people who were leaving gave us liquor and food, because of course you
don't want to take it on the plane. Costs you don't think of are water
(from a hose) and garbage disposal.

As Ed sez, I think you will spend more on restaurants and don't forget US
cash for mooring balls

Wish I was going 8^(
