John,

I have Harken cars, but even they need some assistance in coming aft. I buy
the largest diameter shock cord I can find. It usually lasts only a season.
The shock cord runs from the car to the aft end of the track, then runs all
the way forward to the shrouds. This long length provides a lot of pull
(initially). I even tried the rubberized plastic ones from APS, but
couldn't get them to last more than a season in the sun. I now consider the
replacement of bungee cords annual maintenance.

Not in the Garhauer set up. I find under load adjustment requires a bit of
crew assistance, though. Maybe I'll try heavier shock cord.
