I would suggest the Annapolis area - or Oxford, MD. Oxford is pretty much
slips, Annapolis is both (also have the other areas mentioned).

St. Michaels is light on slips and has no moorings. Also no single or
doublehanded racing - and a lot of shallow water, but it is a great place to
live and visit.

Annapolis has a very active racing scene - and some distance races down the bay.

Any of these places are great for cruising - from the center of the Bay, there
are many, many places to visit or anchor or just spend a weekend. My visitors
have often remarked at the availability of lovely towns, rivers, harbors, etc.
within a few hours (basically all of the Bay).

The Magothy is great, as Chris said - I don't know about slips or moorings.
Baltimore is also good, but a long ways up the river (two to three hours) from
the Bay. That is why I mentioned Annapolis, which is just a short distance from
the width of the Bay. There are all sorts of accommodations on the Bay....

Get hold of the cruising guide for the Chesapeake - it will give you a lot of
food for thought.

Chuck, I'm partial, but I'd suggest anywhere from Annapolis, West River area
on the Western shore to St. Michaels on the Eastern Shore and north from there.
I like the Magothy River since I can have a good daysail or race in the Magothy
or sail over to Rock Hall, Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Annapolis or many spots on
the Eastern Shore with an easy day sail for an overnight.

The choices are almost endless. When I ask my wife where she'd like to sail
to for the weekend, her answer is always anywhere off the wind. Not that I pay
any attention, of course, but we can pretty much do that.

Of course, Absecon or Great Egg Inlets are a couple days away, too!

  Hi listers,
I'm looking to find a different mooring or slip for 2014 and hope East Coast
listers can make recommendations.
Looking to stay between 3 to 5 hours from home, Mays Landing, NJ so somewhere
between Washington DC and Mystic Conn.
Hoping to race singlehanded or doublehanded a few times.
  Boat draws 6' 3".
