The Town Car he had before that had the four barrell carb. Then again
it was so big it probably needed the extra power a lot more than my
Silverado 1500 does now ....

I guess this trip down memory lane all goes back to what a lot of us
like about sailing. I think no one here would buy a brand new 40 year
old car design (unless opf course it was a classic car like the original
Shelby Cobra ...). 40 year old designs are pretty obsiolete and tehre
are far better out there. Also except with antique aitos well preserved
40 year old cars were dust 25+ years ago. The great thing about
sailboats is that 40 year old sailboats still sail well and if cared for
are arouond for a long time still to come. My boat is 1987 and probably
one of the five newest boats in our marina....

So to summarize ..
I would not want to regularly drive a 40 year old car.
I would not wish to have a mullett or wear the clothes of the 80s or
70s
I would not trade my 40" TV for a state of the art 1970 TV
I certainly would not wish to ski on 40 year old ski designs (except on
retro day when I use my Atomic Arc 203 SL)

BUT ... I still love the looks of a lot of 40 year old boats. The long
overhangs of the late 60s/early 70s boats were pretty in the day and
still are. We still get kicked regularly by Redwing 30s - both the C&C
and the Hinterhoeller - when they have a good day

Old sailboats don't die. they just wind up in the hands of someone who
loves to tinker endlessly on them. Seems also that a sailboat is old
when it hits 15 years and stays the same age for the next 30 at least
....

Hi Mike,
Your Dad's wagon probably had the 351 (not the 350... a Chevy engine).
With any luck it was a 351 Windsor and not the 351 Cleavland. Maybe even
had a four barrel carb?

        Cheers, Russ

1980 was a great time. I was driving around in my Dad's Ford
LTD wagon with a 350 CID V8 (correct me if that is not the exact model
of engine), also drove a VW Rabbit with the 1.7 litre engine. Blue
Horizon No.1 was to be delivered the next year (1981 C&C 36) .

A couple of interesting points about draft and boats. Shallow
realities have ruined some very nice designs (or compromised them to be
less than they could be). Our 1979 George Hinterhoeller built Niagara
26 (which I always considered a C&C by the way ...) drew 4.0 ft. It was
very tender. The design draft was 4ft 4 inches I believe but because
