Everybody I know (male) pisses over the side, weather and audience conditions permitting.
As for falling overboard, on my boat and most of similar size and construction you can kneel in the cockpit on the leeward side and lean against the stern rail. No danger of falling out, and with even a small amount of heel there is no need to piss on the side of the boat. I seldom bother with cockpit cushions, especially when under way, so I bought a rubber kneeling pad from Princess Auto to make it a bit easier on the knees. Should have tied a line to it. Have to get another one now. So, we (she) decided the v-birth would be the best location for the new tank. I'll be heading down to the boat with the Ronco catalog in hand to figure out what the biggest tank I can fit under the v-birth. All in all, it will be a very simple system. Manual toilet (she said the Raritan PHC would have been here recommendation) to a Y valve diverting the waste either directly overboard or into the tank. A 1" vent, as far forward as I can get it. A pump out and potentially, a seperate fitting on the tank for a manual overboard tank drain with a manual pump. The project moves on.
