That old standby, Practical Sailor, did some testing on different fabric
waterproofing products. 303 Fabric Guard came out on top, even over
Scotchgard. The #3 spot was taken by StarBrite waterproofing, if I recall.
The main problem with some waterproofing agents, like Thompson's WaterSeal,
is that they are silicone-based. If they don't work out, you can't put
anything else over them, and any overspray on the boat will leave a surface
that nothing else will stick to.
I'll stay with my 303 thanks. It's available at West Marine Canada if you
absolutely can't find it anywhere else, but I have seen it on lots of other
store shelves. It is also available through Ace Hardware, if you have a
local outlet.
