I have heard of people using Thompson's Water Seal to treat canvas in the tropics. It's not very good at protecting wood as it is intended, and I have not tried it personally on my boat. I do knows that I replaced my main cover when I realized that as it aged, it had become far less of a UV barrier. The fabric becomes thinner, and you can see light through it when you hold it up. You want that cover to be pretty much opaque.

I buy MaryKate Fabric Waterproofer by CRC from my wholesale supplier.  Still isn't cheap.  I buy it by the gallon.

I see it on eBay for $35 a gallon.
