We have had a couple of Bendytoys in our fleet. The 31 was a dog, the 331 is
not a lot better (OK for cruising but not very fast). It seems one of the
problems is they are big and wide boats for their length - and have outboard
shrouds - thus all you can get is about a 100-105% jib. Ok if you cruise in
brisk conditions, but not in the light stuff. One guy had a 311, gave up on
it and bought a 34 - and has spent a bunch on genoa-like sails (cruising
chutes, things that look like genoas on a furler, etc.) but still cannot
point into the wind very well. That said, they aren't bad if you spend your
life off the wind.
Thus, the Volvo is important. It seems that many of the new-age cruisers
don't sail when the wind is light, they fire up the oil burner and have at
it.

Don't know about the Volvo diesel, but the B331 is a pig under sail.
Make sure you get a good sea trial so you know what you're getting
into before you lay down a bunch of dough.
