Bill,

Is the "Skipper" model the larger all bronze head? If so that is what I have
on Calypso. To reduce the galling/sticking of the main pump I have been
rinsing fresh water through after a day/trip then adding a treatment/lube
compatible with our holding tank treatment.

Some holding tank products advise not to use oils that will create a layer on
top of the holding tank's contents, in particular the KO and CP products
created by Peggie Hall.

I have rebuilt Calypso's bronze head several times to renew the pump leathers
and repair electrolysis type damage to parts that always sit in salt water.
Calypso's next head may be a VacuFlush or something of a newer design than the
old Wilcox / Thetford products.

I had read about using mineral oil as well, so I started using Baby oil and
then read that that was a no-no. We as sailors are always trying to find the
generic version of the marine grade that we know is ripping us off. I have the
Skipper, and noticed that the pump has been feeling like it is galling, and was
worried I may have compromised the rubber in the pump.
I found Thetford head oil can be found in RV stores, (Cheaper) and I bought
some and have been using that instead. It definitely feels like it is more
lubricated with that stuff, but the effects don't last long.
