In any reasonable breeze (+8 knots) I find generally that our pointing ability
is so much better with the board down compared to any increased drag it adds
that it is no contest--board all the way down, in my case ~ 7.25 feet.

In light air upwind, we drop it partially--maybe 6 feet.

Downwind in a breeze with a kite, we often leave it down for stability since we
feel that the added drag in minimal when we are exceeding hull speed anyway.

In light air downwind, we crank her all the way up.

YMMV and we have never really measured drift to leeward so a lot of this is
more seat of the pants stuff than measurement based.
