For the most part I've resisted spoiling my boat with new things. Ox (née Excaliber) spent a couple of months on the hard in a DIY marina when I bought it/her 7-8 years ago. While there, I was able to buy various must-have things, e.g. thru-hulls, at (near?) wholesale prices through the marina (Green Cove Springs, FL).
If one were buying major stuff (e.g. electronics), it would seem worthwhile to take their boat to a cooperating marina (maybe put it on the hard/hill/hearth if necessary) and get everything wholesale through the marina. I know of some folks who get part-time jobs at West Marine to accomplish the same. Bob M Ox 33-1 Jax, FL
