For the most part, I’ve had very good luck buying boat stuff on EBay. For
example, last week I exchanged Emails on the list about using a Harken
2145-57 flip-flop block for my roller furling lead. List from Harken is
$279, and they are $274 from West Marine. The other lister had bought his
for something like $160 at wholesale. I just received the one I bought on
EBay from a source in Annapolis for $129 plus $9,99 shipping.

In another example, I bought a new Kuuma 6 gallon water heater for $175. I
could have gotten it wholesale through a local friend in the boat repair
business for $221. List is over $300.

Other examples: Blue Sea 7610 ACR for $72 vs WM price of $99. Three Blue Sea
circuit breakers for $13 from a dealer in Florida vs $24.99 at WM. A
LinkLite battery monitor for $189 from a dealer in Southern California vs
$259. Stainless Anchorlift vertical axis 1000w windlass for $450 from a
company in Florida that had given up their Anchorlift franchise and was
closing out their stock.

You sometimes need to shop on EBay for a week or two before you get the best
price. And you need to be selective about what you buy, because not every
item is a bargain and not every seller is the best. But I’ve always found
EBay to be a good source for boat stuff at bargain prices.

Subject: Stus-List General Approach to Paying Bottom Dollar on New Boat
Stuff

For the most part I've resisted spoiling my boat with new things.

Ox (née Excaliber) spent a couple of months on the hard in a DIY marina when
I bought it/her 7-8 years ago. While there, I was able to buy various
must-have things, e.g. thru-hulls, at (near?) wholesale prices through the
marina (Green Cove Springs, FL).

If one were buying major stuff (e.g. electronics), it would seem worthwhile
to take their boat to a cooperating marina (maybe put it on the
hard/hill/hearth if necessary) and get everything wholesale through the
marina.

I know of some folks who get part-time jobs at West Marine to accomplish the
same.
