I use the Lubriplate 130 AA on Calypso’s (and two prior boat’s) rudder bearings
(bronze/SS), Edison steering gear (cable, chain, sheave bearings etc.), and the
MAX Prop. My only complaint is it can be messy to handle. It has performed
well in a salt water environment.

I do not have specific info on the Lubriplate 130 AA’s compatibility with
plastics but Delrin should be OK. I have not observed any solvent/volatile
type behavior from the Lubriplate 130 AA. I have successfully used Delrin in
many applications where it is exposed to harsh solvents. 130 AA will separate
a bit when stored and the lower viscosity lubricant component (like engine oil)
will leak all over whatever it is stored in. (Delrin does have some
interesting reactions when machining large pieces and will cold flow under
pressure.)

If you are nervous about the 130 AA I suspect a specialty lubricant especially
formulated for mixed plastics in salt water may be worth looking for. A
lubricant that does not wash out quickly and will retain a minimum of salt
crystals would be the ticket. I bet the guys that build carbon fiber rudder
stocks have a recommendation.

You'll have to drop the rudder in order to drill through the rudder shaft and
bearings.
The rudder shaft seems too thin to get enough threads tapped in? Also, the
zerk fittings might go bad over time, so I glassed in SS bushngs to the
fiberglass shaft wall, and screw the zerks into those. Parts were ordered from
McMaster-Carr where I selected the grease. You could just buildup the
fiberglass layers? MaxProp recommends Lubriplate. I didn't know if that would
attack Delrin, so I selected a grease more environmentally friendly and rated
for plastics.

I was thinking about some Jefa self aligning rudder bearings. Overkill? Not
sure they'll even fit without major work.

Grease fittings....hmm...just drill a hole and tap it for a zirc? I like it!
I'm thinking of using the same grease as for the max-prop.
