Not certain what you have on your 37+ but the 34R came out during the same time
from C&C and it has Delrin doughnuts for bearings. The stainless steel shaft
rides on delrin. You can see a bulge in the rudder log where the bearings are.
I think earlier C&Cs had a fiberglass shaft, no bearings. Some had grease
fittings.

When I had some play in my system, I priced Delrin bearings, at $275 each.
Instead, I added grease fittings to mine. The grease removed all play and the
rudder is very reliable now. I use a food safe, plastic safe, synthetic, white
grease.

Subject: Stus-List 37+ rudder bearings?

Anybody know anything about the rudder bearings on a 37+? When I pulled the 24
year old rudder, the shaft had some scoring and wear grooves. I looked up
inside the "bearings" but couldn't tell if it was an actual bearing with
rollers or just a bushing (rubber, fiberglass, bronze?).

Thanks,
