Sorry your voyage had such a rough start. FYI - I took the rudder out of my 35 MK I and it wasn't all that hard - just tedious. It isn't all that heavy either. If the MK II has as crappy a bearing/collar design as the MK I you will be wanting to redo that too.

However, if you have any doubts, I suggest getting a pro to do the work, especially considering the voyage coming up. The 4-5K sounds like a lot for a repair.
