Welcome, Joseph! Sorry to hear about the poor start to your adventure.

Re the rudder: If you are experienced with the materials and processes needed
to repair the rudder, go for it. However, if you have any doubts, I suggest
getting a pro to do the work, especially considering the voyage coming up. The
4-5K sounds like a lot for a repair. I suggest you look around a bit more and
perhaps contact South Shore Yachts to see if they can supply a new one.

Through the list I was informed of the Maritime Museum of the Great Lakes and
have contacted them to obtain drawings of the C&C 35 MKII (still waiting for
the results of their search).
Are there any 35 MKII owners who have obtained drawings of this design?
I am considering doing the repairs to the rudder myself after receiving quotes
of $4K and $5K from two companies.
I welcome any suggestions or comments as to the feasibility of doing the repair
myself.
