I would but on the ST1000 opening it up breaks the factory seal for water proofing. Not something i want to do to a deck mounted unit. The first unit I received had a malfunctioning compass and knowing I was sending it back, I took it apart to see how it worked. The compass inside is pretty cool and floats around on a nifty little gimbal. I'm hoping that plugging it into the St40 compass and mounting the fluxgate down low in the cabin I can reduce the movement to it from the choppy wave action of my lake.
