Hi Edd, Several years ago, I removed our floorboards and refinished them. The surface veneer is very thin, and though I was very carefull, I had a couple places where a light sanding went through. Several scars had to remain, but added character. Ultra-Sole made a beautiful result and is shiny, but not slippery, amazing stuff no longer in production.
You may have few options if the holly is gone. If its like ours, you can easily lift a center hatch under your table or over your bilge pump and see the bottom of the board is one laminate, no stripes, no holly. I like the look of teak and holly floor, but carpet feels better on the feet. That faux teak and holly sole looks interesting and waterproof. Like congoleum. You'll need to plan your cuts to prevent $$$ waste. One person suggested sanding it down and revarnishing, but in looking at the edges, I don't think the holly goes all the way down -- so any sanding I do may take it away completely (in fact, I'm wondering if the dark sections I'm seeing is because it's worn down past the holly stripes.) Does anyone have any insight into this and suggestions? Also, is anyone aware of this product? ( http://www.welcome-aboard.com/prodinfo.asp?number=THS&aitem=1&mitem=1 ) which could possibly be used to resurface the flooring? All the best, Edd Edd M.
