Hi Brent,
Back in the 80's when we were all learning windsurfing as the sport was in it's
infancy, and board designs were ever changing and unsettled and manufacturers
hired professionals to demonstrate their boards. Some makers sold narrow long
shapes while others pushed wider shorter boards. I caught onto the fact that
many ads showed a pro riding a board different than what they were selling, but
painted with logos to match. A good sailor could make any design work, but most
buyers missed that key fact. One pro, Mike Waltze a professional windsurfer,
made a claim that he could sail a "door" and I have a video where he proved it.
He took a bedroom door off it's hinges, took the universal joint off a
windsurfer and mounted it, and attached a sail and a skeg, and rode it out
through some surf in Hawaii. Moral: good sailors can sail anything!

Interesting read. I think the author likely would not be chuffed by a less than
34 foot C&C either based on his lengthy rant about the 26Ms traveller located
on the bridge deck in front of the companionway. Oh he also bitched about the
bridge deck too and the inconvenience of stepping up and over it to enter the
cabin. It's a long way up on a 37+ so he clearly is stuck where he is. I guess
In reality the likelihood of a Hunter 26 with its low entrance ever having its
cockpit filled by a bad wave or broach is pretty small.

On a separate side note and just for shits and giggles I went to the MacGregor
website to poke around the photo gallery. There is a section where they took
the 26M out off the California coast in true winds of 37 mph (shown in MPH for
the non sailors I guess). They labeled this as "don't try this at home". If I
needed to feel concerned about sailing in 32 knots of wind I think I'd just
quit sailing all together! I shook my head in disbelief. The crew looked
comfortable but why wouldn't they, they were being chased by an M70 camera
boat! Nice safety net. Also in the pictures of them sailing in the gale, they
are never close hauled. It makes me wonder if these boats can even beat upwind
if blowing over 20 knots. Fun stuff.

Here's a review by a guy who owned both a McGregor 26M and a Hunter Edge 27.
Interesting comparison.
