I modified our original boom to work as Bill's below, except we used a 32/1 magic box inside rather than the 6/1 Harken set up. One hand trim in any wind condition. I updated the boom winch and it when reefing only. The original set up was a PITA to say the very least. Jack Fitzgerald HONEY US12788 C&C 39 TM In a message dated 1/2/2013 2:50:39 P.M. My boom also originally had cheek blocks and a little winch mounted on the boom when I got it. Outhaul dragging in a galled up aluminum slot. One time we lost the lead (which doesn’t happen all that often – the lead, not losing it!) screwing around getting the outhaul in after turning the bottom mark I decided to fix that. The project got away from me, ended up with a new boom from Charlestown Spars, and Harken ball bearing outhaul like Russ did. Used one of Harkens diagrams, 6:1 with triple blocks, Forward block anchored to the boom, rear adjustable with a 7X19 wire out the back of that turning around a metal sheave at the end of the boom to the clew. 3/8” line Leads back to the cockpit, no winch needed, huge improvement. Bill Coleman C&C 39 My ouuthaul and reef lines all run internally within the boom. No cheek blocks or other stuff mounted on the outside of the boom, especially on the sides !!!. I think of it as a safety feature. note that on an accidental jibe or any situation where a crew might get hit in the head with the boom, a clean boom will only give them a knot/ headache/ etc. A boom with cheek blocks, etc will probably draw lots of blood and more. Keep the boom clean, if you can Don Wagner C&C 41CB Der Baron West River MD _______________________________________________ This List is provided by the C&C Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com
