Interesting story about this, a boat I was checking out at a Salvage dealer ended up there because it started sinking at its dock. The owner was actually driving in California when he got a call from the Coast Guard on his cell phone because his EPRIB went off. Turns out they had launched his boat in Georgia, and a thru hull or something was inadvertently left open, got water 2 feet over the floorboards and set it off. So, possibly it COULD be useful if you were on a ski trip!

If I ever go further offshore I'll think about renting an EPIRB (or buying one if the price drops to a more reasonable range). For now, the inexpensive device I have offers an acceptable level of comfort. Rick Brass Washington, NC
