Yes, gloss is slippery when wet. But it's more durable than rubbed effect
and only marginally more slippery. I use a mat at the base of the
companionway steps and am careful moving around when it's bouncy. One of
the nice things about C&Cs is that they all have plenty to hang on to and
there's never far to to go if you get tossed across the cabin. I suppose
you could put Grip Tex in the last coat of varnish if you were very serious
about non skid on the sole, but it's not a route I'd go anywhere except the
companionway steps.
