Pretty dog gone liberal out here on the far northwest corner of the US.

If one was so inclined they could smoke a joint while getting married to a
dude, especially in the city of Seattle. I was relieved to read the text of
the new legislation and realize they are not going to force me to marry a dude.
The lovely Mrs. Calypso seemed a less relieved; I need to ask her about that.

However, the Feds do not see things the same way and having any trace of a
banned substance on board a boat is asking to have the boat confiscated with
little recourse.

The last time I took Calypso across the US border I had a very direct
discussion with the crew regarding what could and could not be on board. The
Canadian Customs lady was exceedingly polite but gave me a warning over having
a bag of peeled carrots.

The US Customs lived up to their well deserved reputation of being
inconsiderate and down right a**holish. Maybe it was because Calypso had been
in Canada for 6 weeks. Maybe it was because we had a motley crew with a mix of
passports, accents, and skin colors, maybe it's because they are a bunch of
power mad bureaucrats who have been given free range to act as they please. I
don't know for sure, but I do know it is an embarrassment to me, a US citizen
that people bringing in a boat from Canada or anywhere else will be treated the
same way or worse.

Out here on the US West Coast there is governmental activity to ban copper in
recreational boat bottom paints.
IIRC the legislation was moved to the back burner in Washington and California
to allow for more study. The last draft I saw allowed for several years of
phase in before the copper based paint was to be completely banned.
When looking at a 10 year payback for copper based coating it may be a good
idea to consider what legislation could pop up in the next year or so in your
area.
