Martin,
I have a similar - but not identical set up - and managed to spend
over 300 consecutive nights on board with less than 10 of those hooked
to shore power.
If you get a good balance on each of your generation, consumption, and
storage, you can do pretty well at keeping the big yellow cord stored
deep in the lazarette.
Cheers

Alan,
Don't stop with checking just the fuel hoses. My 1986 Landfall 39 had very
badly "weakened" deck drain hoses. Looking at them, I would never have
guessed how weak they were.
I bought the boat about 2 months ago, and just had it surveyed after doing
a fair amount of work in preparation for the survey. The surveyor picked
up
on the hoses, and he was absolutely correct!
While they looked fine, when they were flexed they showed surface cracks.
When I tried to remove them, they ripped apart. It appears that the wire
reinforcement had corroded internally, and the hoses rubber had simply
deteriorated.
These were the "Shields" brand black hoses with the green printed labeling
on them. Doing a further search, we found the same type (although
different
diameter) Shields black hoses used on the head seawater intakes and the
galley sink drain. All exhibited similar decay.

Bought our 1990 boat in 2002. Replaced all hoses on the engine cooling,
bilge pumps and head over the first winter, every hose except the engine
exhaust. Better than a good insurance policy and 10% the cost. Definitely
do the head in winter; cut it out and throw away.

I prefer the interior layout of the 1989 37/40 with an aft cabin queen
sized bed to the 1980 40 footer, which is much narrower in the stern. You
pay a little more, but resale will be better. There was a 37R wich is
pretty spartan, and full cruise 37plus and a 37XL . They were built in
light racey 8 ft deep keel versions and centerboard versions too.

Bob, don't laugh about popping the clutch.
I used to start my old 1GM Yanmar with a hand crank.
Back in the day, I occasionally found myself with 2 dead batteries and
nothing to get the engine going.
We'd simply pull out the hand crank, decompress the cylinder, spin it
around and then release.
Worked like a charm... Not so much on my Perkins 4-236 though.

Doesn't work at the dock, though. What's the emoticon for exaggeration?
For the windlass, how about going manual? That would be a lot simpler.

Richard, We looked at a 37 in Wickford and aside from a few deck problems,
it was a pretty good boat that I think could be had pretty reasonably. But
it had nothing much in the way of equipment on it. If we hadn't found the
40, we were leaning very much in the direction of this 37.

Hi,
The drains are what they are! A very bad design and unless you want to
make them bigger which means a lot of work you are stuck with the
design. I don't remember having water in the cockpit while sailing. I
checked with Kevin, another Redline 25 owner, and he says no problem
with water in the cockpit.
You may want to buy or make yourself a cockpit grate. They keep the
shoes from getting wet.
If you want to change the drains you will need to install access hatches
in the cockpit and then put in larger drains and larger drain tubes and
then you will need to drill holes in the hull and install larger
diameter through-hulls / seacocks!
In order to launch you may want to check the following:
1. make sure all through-hulls /seacocks are working, i.e. they can
be closed and opened. Check to make sure that they are bronze or
Marelon plastic. I prefer bronze.
2. The hoses need to be double clamped.
3. Make sure the halyards are not frayed and ensure that the main
halyard rope-wire splice is in good condition.
4. Make sure that your running lights work
5. You may or may not have a steaming light and if you do then it
needs to work and you will need to install one if you intend to be
motoring after dark.
6. Spare rope
7. Anchor and 200 feet of rode
8. Boarding ladder
9. You may want to check the head and holding tank to make sure
that it is in working order. :)
Cheers,

CnC-25 Redline thru hull drainage from cockpit to under-hull or keel
area...
hi fellow CnC'ers,
i'm a new owner and have a couple of questions, the firsr has to do
with the
thru hull drain holes from cockpit to under-hull or keel area.
these darn holes keep getting plugged and never really drain properly.
i understand an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so i
wonder,
now that she's on the hard, is there anything i can do to get her as
unplugged as possible and to keep her holes free and clear?
Her previous owner is not available due to health and can not
ascertain how
long she has been on hard without seeing water, so the next question
is what
should i do to prep her for April launching?
Any good experience/advice would be very greatly appreciated.

Use a coat hangar! Then flush it out. Water may just compact the
blockage.
