Bob, don't laugh about popping the clutch.

I used to start my old 1GM Yanmar with a hand crank.

Back in the day, I occasionally found myself with 2 dead batteries and
nothing to get the engine going.

We'd simply pull out the hand crank, decompress the cylinder, spin it
around and then release.

Worked like a charm... Not so much on my Perkins 4-236 though.
