I have a hydraulic backstay and vang, with a unit (I don't know what it's called) in the cockpit that switches between the two. A year-and-a-half ago, the unit failed, and I had it and the vang rebuilt by a hydraulic shop (recommended by Navtec) in Seattle. Lew Townsend did a thorough job, and even made a new hydraulic line (he noticed it going bad from the picture I sent) while I waited. I asked him about the hydraulic fluid I was using, and he recommended I use a different kind. Then he dumped what I had, and gave me enough to fill the reservoir in my boat.
