Bill, was this the muffler for an A4?
My 38 had 1 ½ hoses left over from the original A4. My PO had adapted down from the 2 hoses appropriate for the diesel to save a few bucks. The resulting backpressure (along with a generally shoddy hose routing) contributed to the water that got into the exhaust manifold and caused the engine to fail. I actually have 3 mufflers out in the garage that are available if anyone needs one. Lets just say I could have been more diligent about assessing the space available and the spatial relationships of the engine, transmission, fuel tanks, and bulkheads when I was trying to determine the optimal routing for my new exhaust system. I have a 2 in and out Hydra Hush muffler from Westerbeke, a 2 top in/ 2 top out Vernalift that is 7 diameter, and a Vetus waterlock muffler that has variable orientation on the inlet and outlet, and also has both 1 ½ and 2 in and out ports. Anyone needs one, contact me off the list. Ive got to put these on E Bay one of these days. Top out is 2 female npt, reduced down for 1 ½ ID Hose, but could be anything. Appears to be in nice shape.
