One trick is to wax the surface of the glass, (not the milled edge), then let
your favourite bedding compound cure, then peel and cut away the excess. No
acetone, mineral spirits etc.\

Did you wipe of the Silkens with acetone? I think I am right in saying that
acetone will cause Plexiglass to craze. When I did my windows this year
(using Plexi) Tony at Select Plastics made it very clear I should clean up
with mineral spirits - not acetone

Someone please remind me again what I should be using to replace the lens in
the forward hatch. Plexiglass, Lexsan, poly acrylic ? I used plexiglass
last time and it crazed around the edges where I had to wipe off excess
Sikens.

Thanks

Ohhh - I got my cans mixed up in one of the three times I re-did my windows,
and grabbed the acetone once - it melted the Lexan, probably similar on
acrylic - I intended to use Alcohol - I guess Mineral spirits would be easy
on it too.

Use cast acrylic, 9mm, which you can get at Multicraft Plastics, 7298 SW Tech
Center Dr Tigard, OR 97223, 503-352-0970. You also might try TAP Plastics in

I used cast acrylic from Maritime Plastics in Annapolis There is an
Industrial supplier you can find on the web who is cheaper if they have it
locally. I don't recall the name.

Gary,

We do not control the Seaport fees. We have asked for a donation to defray the
costs of the Rendezvous' website, room rental for Rob and a welcome reception
for same.

Any monies left over after the above expenses will be donated to Stu and the
Cncphotoalbum.

I hope that helps.

Hi David,

We purchased our C&C 37+ in early July of 2010 so haven't had it very long.
We have put several thousand miles on it and have had it long enough to
know we are very happy with the boat. We haven't found anything we don't
like about it (except there isn't anywhere to easily stretch out to sleep
in the cockpit, some people wouldn't find that to be a problem). We don't
race her as we have crewed on other peoples boats racing for years and
still do. This way we don't have to strip the 1000lbs of cruising gear we
have accumulated to make her race ready. We also get by with dacron sails
this way.

I haven't seen any recent reviews of the 37/40 series. There are a couple
from back in 1988 when the R version first came out (same hull and deck,
more spartan interior and slightly different keel and mast). I could email
them to you if you are interested.

But Alex, what are you going to call your boat? "On the hard since
Nov 2006" is too long, and doesn't pass the Coast Guard test? Where
are you? "On the hard?"

yes this is a related email - I have a 35-II with two small tanks
under the aft seats. The pop-out lids are still too small to pull
the tanks, so I have to pull 12 screws to change a 1 gal. tank. Not
good when Kathleen is baking, but with a good screw gun I'm fairly
quick. . .

A challenging live-aboard, and a great sailing boat. . .

cheers, Lee

I got my Yanmar 3QM engine back from the rebuilders and into the boat
yesterday. They were unable to determine the precise cause of the blow by that
caused the oil evacuation. Might have been stuck rings. In any event, they
installed new piston assemblies, cylinder liners, bearings and exhaust valves.
It took them 3 hours to remove the injector I was unable to when I tried two
years ago.

In short, I should have a fine "new" engine once I bolt it in place and hook
everything up.

Total cost: about $4,500 not counting my R&R labour.

Follow up to my loud hissing sounding exhaust. Raw water system good, flow at
end of heat exchanger going into the mixing elbow strong. Looked inside of
mixing elbow, no blockage(aided by flexible fiber optic scope). I didn't want
to run the engine with exhaust hose off of the elbow. figured it would make a
sooty kind of mess in the engine compartment. So I've decided the lift muffler
must be the culprit. Outside jacket showing some spots that look like its
rusting thru from the inside out. Perhaps inside baffling is deteriorating and
causing blockage? In any event looks like a potential fill the boat with water
issue. As I stated earlier the engine runs ok, no overheat condition, didn't
really notice lack of power.Any other thoughts? Looks like Defender has some
good prices on veralift units. They also have a Vetus model twice the price
looks like its a composite material.Listers any experience with either? Thanks

Jim,

You might check the exhaust hose carefully. A small break around the clamp
might give the same symptoms, and I bet it is a cheaper repair (if you can
crawl in there).

The composite material works best and last much longer.

Jim,

You might check the exhaust hose carefully. A small break around the
clamp might give the same symptoms, and I bet it is a cheaper repair (if you

Any other thoughts? Looks like Defender has some good prices on veralift
units. They also have a Vetus model twice the price looks like its a

Listers any experience with either?

I got my Yanmar 3QM engine back from the rebuilders and into the boat
yesterday. They were unable to determine the precise cause of the blow
by that caused the oil evacuation. Might have been stuck rings. In any
event, they installed new piston assemblies, cylinder liners, bearings
and exhaust valves. It took them 3 hours to remove the injector I was
unable to when I tried two years ago.

In short, I should have a fine "new" engine once I bolt it in place and
hook everything up.

Total cost: about $4,500 not counting my R&R labour.

If the break is on the top side of the hose exhaust could be leaking into
the bilge. If your hose is original you might want to replace it now while
one end is off.

BTW, fiber optic camera? Very cool!
