I am about to conceed that your option a) is no longer viable on Mojito and was considering the same thing. My turnbuckles and end fittings are in really good shape, so I'll be looking for something that matches. I used Amsteel on another boat a few years ago and was pretty happy with it (you do need to adjust it more often), so not sure which direction I'll go. Wire still seems the most popular option for abrasion resistance.
