Have you removed the pump and tried to clean the float switch?
Pumps are generally indestructable.  Switches should last multiple seasons.
 I would do a separate switch or a pump with a replaceable switch.  My
problem is that the keel bolts make it necessary to have a non-submersible
pump with a pick up.
