Before I ditched Apple completely, I had mixed results with a virtual
XP and doing updates via iTunes.  In my opinion it is less hassle to
just dual boot or switch hard drives (I swap hard drives on my laptop
to switch OSs).

I never had an iPhone as the whole idea of needing to connect to a
computer to do anything with my wireless device seemed kind of
backwards.  I almost feel sorry for those of you "stuck" on the
iPhone.  Best of luck.
