Related to this, I have a question.
What is CLUG's purpose? The original purpose "to promote Linux and open
source" no long really applies, in my eyes - we've met that goal. Now
what?
I think answering this question dictates what types of presentations we
want or should be seeing....
As it is, I think CLUG is currently more of a social group than a tech
group...
I have been saying this for the last couple years...that CLUG is
suffering from an identity crisis & we really don't have a sense of
direction & have therefore become somewhat irrelevant.
I did try & do my part to change this by being part of the executive,
but I will fully admit that I really could have done a better job. I
think the key to making changes s to get involved in some way. That
could be anything...being part of exec...giving
presentations...mentoring a newbie...bringing some one to a meeting...or
even as simple as attending a meeting.
And while all of these are great...if there is no direction or focus it
is difficult to be involved. Hense the identity crisis. Which then
begs the question, "what is this CLUG thing about anyways?"
So a challenge to everyone out there. Think about what you want from
CLUG but also what you can give. If the answer in nothing to either or
both questions...thats ok, but at least you know where you stand. Is
there something you can offer...even ideas...but action is
preferred...then great also. CLUG is what we make it & we don't want it
to die off, we need to do what we can to bring it back to life.
I know I don't have a lot of time to offer to CLUG at the moment but I
do have ideas, suggestions, etc. I would like to take action on them
myself, but that isn't always possible either. Maybe you are like that
as well? Maybe you have a killer idea but aren't sure to even how to
get started with it. Let people know...ask for help...don't know who to
ask....talk to the exec or post it to the list.
