Most modern RPM based distros now handle this automatically so there really is not a functional difference here.
In the past I have had poor experiences with the RPM management utilities. I think most of the problems have since been sorted, but since I still remember the horror of linuxconf and early incarnations of yum and yast, I still have a residual dislike. Pretty much today it does not matter. I personally stick to Ubuntu and Debian so that I have one paradigm for all my devices, from servers to laptops to my embedded devices. One advantage is that Ubuntu now seems to be the most prevalent, which means that it is now easier to find documentation and help for that distro. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAkpkymgACgkQwRXgH3rKGfMviACfVzwAe1RTPx9m2rq6I+1JJoN+ +WUAoJ52A7hCSa0fb254FedMI6VzZyOu =uIBc -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ clug-talk mailing list [email protected] http://clug.ca/mailman/listinfo/clug-talk_clug.ca Mailing List Guidelines (http://clug.ca/ml_guidelines.php) **Please remove these lines when replying
