as Jarrod pointed out that's not really the way it (is supposed) to work ... it's more of an illusion created by the lack of visible activities that aren't voting. we tried for some time to get a small amount of funds together to take care of administrative costs (e.g. registering as a society, buying hot dog buns and plates for BBQs, etc), but as long as it was donation based we didn't have much in the way of resources. setting a 'ticket price', as artificial as it is, solved the problem and CLUG is able to have a small amount of cash on hand to facilitate the organization. the reason why the paying members are given a vote was because, as Jarrod pointed out, they are the ones with a commitment and a vested interest in the group and so are probably the best suited to help in issues of direction. the person who arrives randomly at one meeting to check out CLUG probably doesn't have the context needed to participate in such things. but the voting was never intended to be the central reason for membership. more importantly ... i mentioned BBQ. and it's certainly springtime outside my window. when are we having a CLUG BBQ? perhaps we could do one with the CUUGers? would be fun. i miss our BBQs. -- Aaron J.
