No, I don't see any benefit to this. I'd hate to see a situation where no one wants to run for President except the current President, and he is unable because of a change in bylaws. Also, if the President decides to transform the group, this could take more than a year. If the membership are behind him, then I see no reason that he shouldn't stay on.
