Here's my current status:

1. Booting from HD gives "Operating system missing"
2. Booting WinXP CD hangs after "Inspecting hardware" stage.
3. Booting into knoppix shows that the WinXP partition is intact.

As I see it, I need to find some way to run fixmbr, or create a suitable boot disk which I can then leave in as a backup.

I have access to a working linux system, aside from the one that isn't booting at the moment.

As I have some partitions from my old linux install, perhaps the best option would be to install a minimal linux distro, with GRUB, and then use that to boot for the forseeable future.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I do not want to lose my Windows machine (gaming, you know).

Regards,

Andrew
