Thanks a bunch! I've finally gotten a chance to take a look at these
issues and these changes all seem to make sense.

I've merged and pushed. Will deploy a 1.2.0-SNAPSHOT to clojars so
these changes will soon be usable, but there seem to be some issues
with clojars right now.
