Another solution is to deploy a newer distro on a cheap box (like a
"mini PC") with lots of memory to serve the RHEL7 box as a detached Clam
server.

From what I check, RHEL7 is still 'Extend Life support' till Jun 2028, it
could be a good idea to continue compile and build Clamav on Centos7 or RHEL7.
