Luca, I configure my launchd plist for OSX to both start clamd and to keep it running if it crashes. I will say that although I have tested it by manually killing clamd I haven't notice clamd crashing here. Given this builtin capability in OSX I would not be for having this script incorporated as a default for OSX.
