Might be a fairly generic question. Clamav is very slow when compared to most competion, for instance f-prot. Scanning a 15mg file same machine, same file, and pretty much the same load, simple .exe, basic options: Three tests each, worse times for f-prot and avgscan, BEST times for clamscan and clamdscan: F-prot real 0m2.534s user 0m1.460s sys 0m0.330s Clamscan real 0m22.302s user 0m18.970s sys 0m0.570s Clamdscan real 0m4.690s user 0m2.290s sys 0m0.260s Avgscan real 0m4.690s user 0m2.290s sys 0m0.260s Now granted, not likely to scan 15mg email attachments but I also scan ftp and http downloads and cannot use clam for either because if someone downloads a 50mg file it takes forever, f-prot is still measured in seconds.
